A free flowing lowland river with all its characteristics can be seen on the Danube where it forms the border between Croatia and Serbia. On Croatian side there is a last remaining wetland of the middle Danube which is very important for fish spawning, birds nesting and wintering. This is “Kopački rit” Nature Park  which depends on surface waters from Danube. It is included in the NEN network because of a variety of habitats (sandy banks, islands, steep banks) which nicely represent lowland rivers.
