Das Projekt \u201eLIFE RESTORE for MDD – Erhaltung und Wiederherstellung von Auwaldlebensr\u00e4umen entlang der Mur-Drau-Donau\u201c ist eine gemeinsame Initiative von \u00d6sterreich, Slowenien, Kroatien, Ungarn und Serbien zur Erhaltung und Wiederherstellung der gr\u00f6\u00dften zusammenh\u00e4ngenden Auw\u00e4lder im UNESCO F\u00fcnf-L\u00e4nder-Biosph\u00e4renpark Mur-Drau-Donau (TBR MDD). Das Projektgebiet ist ein 2.100 km\u00b2\u00a0gro\u00dfer Flusskorridor, der 17 Natura 2000-Gebiete und andere Schutzgebiete innerhalb des TBR MDD verbindet. Die Gebiete bilden eine zusammenh\u00e4ngende Kette, die sich \u00fcber \u00a0700 km entlang der drei Fl\u00fcsse erstreckt. Auw\u00e4lder machen dabei 49,4% (435 km\u00b2) der Waldstruktur des Gebietes aus.<\/p>\n

Diese Auw\u00e4lder befinden sich jedoch aufgrund von Flussbegradigungen, intensiver Forstwirtschaft, der Ausbreitung invasiver Arten, der Verarmung des Genpools und fehlender grenz\u00fcberschreitender Zusammenarbeit in einem kritischen \u00f6kologischen Zustand. Diesen Bedrohungen wird durch Renaturierungsma\u00dfnahmen an 29 Standorten entlang der drei Fl\u00fcsse begegnet. Institutionen aus Naturschutz-, Wasser-, Forst- und<\/p>\n

Landesverwaltungen, Universit\u00e4ten und Umweltschutzorganisationen arbeiten daran, Seitenarme an den Fluss anzubinden, Flussbetten auszuweiten und Pappelplantagen in naturn\u00e4here Auenw\u00e4lder umzuwandeln. Die Renaturierungsarbeiten werden durch umfangreiche \u00d6ffentlichkeitsarbeit, Umweltbildung und ein kontinuierliches Monitoring begleitet.<\/p>\n

Die Ma\u00dfnahmen<\/h2>\n

An vier Projektstandorten werden neue Kies- und Sandb\u00e4nke und ein dynamisches Flusssystem geschaffen. Gleichzeitig werden an 14 Standorten Seitenarme an den Fluss angebunden und Altarme renaturiert, um die Auw\u00e4lder besser mit Wasser zu versorgen und so vor dem Austrocknen zu sch\u00fctzen. An elf Standorten wird die Entwicklung naturnaher W\u00e4lder gef\u00f6rdert, indem auwaldtypische Baumarten gepflanzt, invasive Arten entfernt und Naturw\u00e4lder f\u00fcr den Schutz der Fl\u00e4chen erworben werden. Eine integrative, grenz\u00fcberschreitende Planung der Flussrenaturierung an drei Pilotflussabschnitten sichert die Nachhaltigkeit der Ma\u00dfnahmen. Die gemeinsamen Ma\u00dfnahmen werden mit Stakeholder:innen reflektiert und in einem langfristigen Renaturierungsplan f\u00fcr den UNESCO F\u00fcnf-L\u00e4nder-Biosph\u00e4renpark Mur-Drau-Donau festgehalten.<\/p>\n

Habitat typen<\/h2>\n

Die geplanten Ma\u00dfnahmen im Rahmen des LIFE RESTORE for MDD Projektes konzentrieren sich auf zwei wichtige Lebensraumtypen in den Auen von Mur, Drau und Donau: die priorit\u00e4ren Lebensraumtypen HT 91E0* Weichholz-Auw\u00e4lder und HT 91F0 Hartholz-Auw\u00e4lder, die eng mit der nat\u00fcrlichen Flussdynamik verbunden und von ihr abh\u00e4ngig sind.<\/p>\n

Diese Lebensraumklassifizierungen sind von EUNIS (European Nature Information System) abgeleitet, einem umfassenden Rahmen zur Identifizierung von Lebensr\u00e4umen, der in ganz Europa verwendet wird. EUNIS deckt ein breites Spektrum von Lebensraumtypen ab, von nat\u00fcrlichen bis zu k\u00fcnstlichen Umgebungen, und umfasst Land-, S\u00fc\u00dfwasser- und Meeres\u00f6kosysteme. Jedem Lebensraum innerhalb des Systems wird ein eindeutiger Code, ein Name und eine detaillierte Beschreibung zugewiesen, um eine eindeutige Identifizierung und Verwaltung zu erm\u00f6glichen.<\/p>\n

Weichholz-Auw\u00e4lder (HT 91E0* – Priorit\u00e4rer Lebensraum)<\/h2>\n

Dieser Lebensraumtyp besteht aus vielf\u00e4ltigen Auw\u00e4ldern, die vor allem entlang von Fl\u00fcssen und B\u00e4chen vorkommen. Charakteristisch f\u00fcr diese W\u00e4lder sind Baumarten wie die Silberweide (Salix alba<\/em>), die Schwarzpappel (Populus nigra<\/em>), die Schwarzerle (Alnus glutinosa<\/em>) und die Gemeine Esche (Fraxinus excelsior<\/em>). Alle Arten kommen auf regelm\u00e4\u00dfig \u00fcberschwemmten, n\u00e4hrstoffreichen und gut durchfeuchteten B\u00f6den vor. Weichholz-Auw\u00e4lder sind bedeutende Feuchtgebiete und sichern die biologische Vielfalt, da sie Lebensraum f\u00fcr eine Vielzahl von Arten bieten, insbesondere f\u00fcr V\u00f6gel, Amphibien, Insekten und eine gro\u00dfe Vielfalt an saisonalen Pflanzen.<\/p>\n

Dieser Lebensraumtyp wird von einer Mischung aus Stieleiche (Quercus robur<\/em>), Bergulme (Ulmus laevis<\/em>), Feldulme (Ulmus minor<\/em>) und Eschenarten wie Gemeine Esche (Fraxinus excelsior<\/em>) oder Schmalbl\u00e4ttrige Esche (Fraxinus angustifolia<\/em>) dominiert. Diese W\u00e4lder sind an die periodischen \u00dcberschwemmungen im Hinterland entlang der gro\u00dfen Fl\u00fcsse angepasst. Sie haben eine reiche Krautschicht und sind oft mit anderen Waldtypen gemischt. Die Bedeutung von Hartholz-Auw\u00e4lder spiegelt sich in der \u00f6kologischen Vielfalt dieser Feuchtgebiete wider.
