From 17th to 19th September 2024 LIFE Restore for MDD partners, subcontractors and affiliates of the project partnership joined the second module of our “Fit for MDD River Restoration” Modular Training that took place in the WWF Austria office in Vienna. The training consists of three modules and is set up as a platform for learning and know-how transfer from international experience of state-of-the-art integrated river restoration amongst partners and planners. It is organized and implemented by experts from REVITAL Integrative Naturraumplanung GmbH.
The second training focused on good practice examples of River Restoration projects in the Mura-Drava-Danube area and other rivers in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Participants learned about restoration at the Danube downstream Vienna, they got insights into the Drava LIFE project and restoration projects at Licca Liber, Salzach and Alpenrhein. A representative from Verbund Hydropower presented the LIFE Traisen project.
The participants could apply the gained knowledge in the frame of their group works –they presented intermediate results and concepts of their river restoration project assignments, discussed different drafts in groups and worked on possible improvements together with experts.
In the frame of an excursion to the National Park Donauauen, rangers threw a spotlight on the significant impact of river restoration from an ecological perspective and provided information on the floodplain forests.
The third training, dealing with the path from planning to realization of river restoration projects, will take place in Maribor, Slovenia from 12th-14th November 2024.
After successful completion of the river restoration training, the participants will be awarded the certificate ‘River Restoration Experts for MDD’.
