From 28 to 30 July 2026, the Young Ranger Camp took place at the Drava Story Visitor Centre in Noskovci, bringing together 32 children from Virovitica-Podravina and Osijek-Baranja Counties for three days of learning, exploration and outdoor adventures.
Throughout the camp, participants learned about nature, the Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve and the important role of rangers in protecting natural areas. The diverse programme combined educational workshops with hands-on field activities, including cycling along the Drava River, birdwatching, setting up camera traps, observing samples under microscopes, and discovering nocturnal animals and natural hazards. In cooperation with the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (CMRS), children also learned essential skills for staying safe and navigating in nature.
As part of the field programme, participants visited the Drava River near Terezino Polje and the Križnica Visitor Centre, where they explored the importance of river and floodplain ecosystems. Through educational activities developed within the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project, they gained a better understanding of river habitats and the importance of their conservation and restoration.
The camp concluded on 30 July, with all 32 participants successfully completing the programme and receiving their Young Ranger diplomas, marking three days filled with new knowledge, experiences and friendships.
The camp was organised by the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas and the Ecological Network of Virovitica-Podravina County as part of the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project.
