From 29 to 31 July, the Drava Story Visitor Centre in Noskovci, in the municipality of Čađavica, hosted the second Young Ranger Camp, organised by the Public Institution for the management of protected parts of nature and the ecological network of Virovitica-Podravina County (JU VP).
During the three-day event, 32 enthusiastic children explored the UNESCO Five-country Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube, learnt about the responsibilities of rangers and went on field trips to various natural sites across the Virovitica-Podravina County. The programme combined fun, education and adventure, with activities including a cycling tour along the Drava River, arts and crafts workshops on nocturnal animals and mystical creatures, horse riding and a survival workshop with the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (CMRS). There were also many other interactive presentations.
The children also learnt more about the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project and the restoration efforts at the Orlovo Selište side channel, where restoration works will soon begin.
The camp concluded on 31 July, which also coincided with World Ranger Day, with a special celebration at the Visitor Centre. The young participants met rangers from all over Croatia, listened to their stories and gained first-hand insight into their work. To mark their achievement, each child received a diploma presented by Željko Vuković, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition.
It was a wonderful mix of learning, fun and inspiration, and we can’t wait to welcome the next generation of Young Rangers! But before that, take a look at the highlights and relive the magic of the Young Rangers Camp on YouTube!
