On Sunday, 13 July 2025, the Public Institution for the management of protected parts of nature and the ecological network of Virovitica-Podravina County hosted this year’s Big Jump event, which was organised as part of the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project. It took place on the banks of the Drava River in Križnica, in the municipality of Pitomača.
The Big Jump is a Europe-wide initiative that celebrates rivers and raises awareness of the importance of protecting freshwater ecosystems. At precisely 3:00 pm, all participants jumped into the Drava River together, joining thousands of people across Europe in a symbolic gesture of unity and commitment to river conservation.
There were plenty of other activities to enjoy throughout the day, including a beach volleyball tournament, rafting on the Drava and a variety of entertainment for children, such as STEM-themed workshops and face painting. Visitors also enjoyed a rich selection of local culinary specialities, adding a festive regional touch to the event.
The celebration brought together families, nature lovers and community members in a vibrant atmosphere that highlighted the importance of rivers for nature, people and our shared future.
