New Ambassadors Wanted: Biosphere Reserve Training Kicks Off This May

The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Unteres Murtal is inviting individuals who are engaged and curious to become active contributors to nature conservation and regional development. As part of the EU-funded LIFE RESTORE for MDD project, the next training programme for Biosphere Reserve Ambassadors will begin on 22 May 2025.

The programme offers an immersive five-day learning experience for individuals from various backgrounds, including local citizens, business employees, municipal staff, educators and tourism professionals, who wish to deepen their knowledge of the biosphere reserve and raise awareness of its importance.

Following the principle of ‘learn – anchor – share’, the training combines expert-led lectures with engaging field excursions on both the Austrian and Slovenian sides of the Mura River. Participants will explore the ecological, cultural and social dimensions of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Unteres Murtal and the wider UNESCO Five-country Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube.

Upon completion of the training, ambassadors are encouraged to play a multiplier role within their communities, helping to communicate the importance of the biosphere reserve and promote the objectives of sustainable development and nature conservation.

More information, including details on how to register, can be found on the official Website of the Biosphere Reserve Unteres Murtal – please note that this training will be held in German.
