At the beginning of June, the first study visit of the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project took place at the EuroMAB conference in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Germany. The conference focused on UNESCO Biosphere Reserves for a Sustainable Future. On the opening day, JU MP was represented by Siniša Golub in a panel discussion.
On 6 June, we held the workshop ‘Restoring Rivers and Floodplain Forests in UNESCO Transboundary Biosphere Reserves’ with partners from Germany, Sweden, Norway, Hungary and Canada. Urs Jäger and colleagues led a tour of restoration sites in the Kliekener Aue, including the reconnection of oxbows and various reforestation projects.
In the afternoon, participants reflected on key takeaways regarding the measurements of different restoration sites, and discussed their challenges and aspirations regarding for biosphere reserves.
