Following the stakeholder workshops and forums held across Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary, work has continued on the LIFE RESTORE for MDD River Restoration Plans for three pilot sections along the Mura and Drava.
An important milestone has now been reached: the concrete restoration measures proposed for Pilot Section III on the Lower Drava, covering the river section from Osijek to Podravska Moslavina, have been included in Croatia’s National Restoration Plan under the EU Nature Restoration Regulation.
The inclusion brings the jointly developed proposals into Croatia’s national restoration planning and demonstrates how cooperation between partners, experts, institutions and local stakeholders can help translate restoration priorities into policy.
This achievement marks an important step towards restoring natural river dynamics and improving river and floodplain habitats along the Lower Drava.
The planning process is also moving forward in other parts of the project area. On Tuesday, 30 June, the completed River Restoration Plans for Pilot Section I along the Mura will be presented to stakeholders from Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary, marking the next important milestone in the joint restoration planning process.
