The joint LIFE RESTORE for MDD educational programme is now being put into practice, bringing children outdoors to learn about river restoration, floodplain habitats and biodiversity through direct experiences in nature.

Using the handbook and activities developed through the programme, workshops were recently held at the Bjelobrdska Bara restoration site and during a gathering of the Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve School Community in Međimurje County.

Through model-building, games, creative tasks and sensory exploration, children discovered how natural rivers shape landscapes and create habitats for numerous species. They learned about the ecological role of willow trees, explored the connections between water, plants and animals, and gained a better understanding of floodplain forests and wetlands.

Team challenges and treasure hunts encouraged the children to apply their knowledge through play while developing curiosity, creativity and teamwork. By turning restoration sites and natural habitats into living classrooms, the programme helps young people understand the importance of restoring and protecting wetlands and floodplain forests along the Mura, Drava and Danube.
