To mark World Wetlands Day on 2 February 2026, the Public Institution for the management of protected parts of nature and the ecological network of Virovitica-Podravine County organised the 6th Winter Wetlands Bike Tour.
The programme began at the Drava Story Visitor Centre in Noskovci, where participants were welcomed by representatives of the Public Institution. As part of the educational programme, Vladimir Juhaz, Head of the Bioresearch Station, gave a talk about World Wetlands Day. Tatjana Arnold Sabo, Director of the Public Institution, and Vladimir Ajhler, Head Ranger, presented the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project and the institution’s activities in 2025. Participants were also introduced to the latest results of the winter waterbird census in Virovitica-Podravina County.
The event brought together project partners, including Lisa Wolf, Project Manager at WWF-Austria, as well as representatives of Croatian Waters.
The cycling tour then followed the Drava River Cycle Path through the municipalities of Čađavica and Sopje. Along the route, participants passed through valuable natural areas, including the Mura–Drava Regional Park, the Mura–Drava–Danube transboundary biosphere reserve, the Natura 2000 ecological network, and the European Green Belt. The tour offered a unique opportunity to experience the wetland habitats of the Drava River first-hand, highlighting their importance for nature conservation.
